The Blobs

The Blobs

As an artist with ADHD, I have learned to lean into my attention deficit tendencies, but in October 2019 when I was in a car accident that resulted in a significant concussion, I had to learn to deal with compounding symptoms from each condition. Since my accident, I have struggled to satisfy my intense need for novelty and learning that comes from ADHD while having lost my regular means of reading and lectures to access information. Relying on hands on learning looking primarily at imagery, I turned back to a pouring technique inspired by microscopic life from two years prior.

While my art practice is inspired by science, it is rooted in play, as I thrive when play is integrated with discovery. I am fascinated by the details and experiences created by enlarging or shrinking the intricacies of my paint pours.  Their existence shifts from character to entity to landscape. A tension is created by this enlargement, as the blobs have the ability to exist as both the monolithic and microscopic.  While we may not be privy to each blob’s story, their appearance acts similar to ink blot tests silently asking us what we see in their form. I have titled this series “Blobs”, and lovingly give each one a colloquial name as they are produced.
